What the Pedestrian Crossing sign means
This yellow or fluorescent yellow-green diamond with a walking-person symbol warns that people may be crossing the road ahead, often near a marked crosswalk. Slow down, scan both sides, and be ready to stop and yield to anyone in or entering the crosswalk. It appears near schools, parks, trails, and busy pedestrian areas. Pedestrians have the right-of-way in crosswalks, and you must let them finish crossing. Never pass a vehicle stopped at a crosswalk — it may be yielding to someone you cannot yet see.
What to do when you see it
Slow down and be ready to stop for people crossing; never pass a vehicle stopped at the crosswalk.
