Terms of Use
Last updated: August 13, 2026
These terms apply to the PermitPal iOS application and this website, published by Genesis One ("we", "us"). By downloading or using the app, you agree to these terms.
What PermitPal is (and isn't)
PermitPal is an independent study aid for driver's permit, motorcycle, and CDL knowledge tests administered by state departments of motor vehicles. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any state department of motor vehicles or any government agency, and it is not a substitute for the official driver's handbook of your state. Passing PermitPal's mock exams does not guarantee you will pass the official test.
Accuracy of content
We verify each state's question content against that state's official driver's handbook and update the app when a handbook changes. Traffic law is set by each state and can change at any time; always rely on your state's official handbook and DMV for authoritative information. The app is provided for educational purposes only.
License
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use PermitPal on devices you own or control, and in a browser at app.getpermitpal.com. Use through the App Store is additionally governed by the App Store Terms of Service, and use through Google Play by the Google Play Terms of Service. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the app or its question content.
Purchases
There are three ways to unlock PermitPal. PermitPal Pro is a one-time purchase of $29.99 that never renews and needs no cancelling. The Cram Pass is a separate one-time purchase that unlocks everything for 10 days and likewise never renews.
PermitPal Pro Weekly is an auto-renewing subscription, currently $6.99 per week, and is available in the iPhone and iPad app only. Payment is charged to your Apple ID when you confirm the purchase. It renews automatically at the end of every weekly period, at the same price, unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before that period ends. You can do that at any time in your Apple ID subscription settings, and turning it off leaves your access running until the period you have already paid for is over. Subscribers who have not subscribed before are charged an introductory price of $5.99 for the first week; eligibility is determined by Apple, per Apple ID.
Bought in the iPhone or iPad app: payment, restores and refunds are handled by Apple under the App Store terms. We do not process the payment and cannot issue the refund ourselves. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com, and use "Restore purchase" in the app to re-enable Pro on another device signed in to the same Apple ID.
Bought in the Android app: the same applies through Google Play, using your Google account.
Bought in a browser: payment is processed by Stripe and we issue you an unlock code by email. That code, or the email address you bought with, restores your purchase on any other browser through "Restore purchase". You may optionally sign in, which attaches the purchase to that account so it follows you automatically. Because we handle this sale directly, refunds for browser purchases are requested from us through the contact form.
Note that Apple Family Sharing applies only to purchases made through the App Store. Google Play Family Library does not cover in-app purchases, so an Android or browser purchase covers one account.
Road-sign artwork
Road-sign artwork is reproduced from the U.S. Federal Highway Administration's Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), which is in the public domain.
Disclaimer of warranties
The app is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Genesis One is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app — including the outcome of any official DMV test.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
