What the Keep Right sign means

This sign directs traffic to pass on the right side of an obstruction or divider. It is posted at the approach to a median, traffic island, toll booth, or the nose of a divided road, where drivers must stay to the right of the fixed object. Following it keeps traffic flowing on the correct side and prevents head-on conflicts. Depending on the layout you may see the black-and-white Keep Right sign or a black-and-yellow diagonal object marker. Either way, move right and pass the obstacle on that side.

What to do when you see it

Steer right and pass the median, island, or divider on its right-hand side.
