What the Wrong Way sign means

This red-and-white Wrong Way sign backs up a Do Not Enter sign. If you see it, you are already heading the wrong direction on a one-way road, ramp, or divided highway and are facing oncoming traffic. Slow down, pull over safely, and turn around as soon as you can — do not keep going. It is placed farther along a ramp than Do Not Enter to catch drivers who missed the first warning. Seeing this sign, especially at night, is a strong signal to stop immediately and correct your direction.

What to do when you see it

You are going the wrong way — slow, pull over when safe, and turn around immediately.

On the CA permit test

Wrong Way means you are already traveling against traffic and must turn around.
