What the Workers Ahead sign means

This orange diamond shows a worker symbol, warning that road workers are on or near the roadway ahead. Slow down, move over if a lane is available, and be prepared to stop for flaggers directing traffic. Watch closely for people on foot close to your lane. It is posted just ahead of active work so you are ready to protect the crew. Work-zone speed limits are strictly enforced and fines are frequently doubled, so reduce speed and stay alert until you have fully passed the activity.

What to do when you see it

Slow down, give workers room, and be ready to stop for flaggers; stay alert until you are past the work area.
