What the Two-Way Traffic sign means

This yellow diamond with two vertical arrows pointing opposite directions warns that you are entering or continuing on a two-way road where oncoming traffic shares the roadway. It often appears after a one-way section ends or where a divided highway becomes undivided. Keep to your side, do not pass unless it is clearly legal and safe, and watch for vehicles approaching from the opposite direction. It reminds you that the road is no longer one-way, so you can no longer use the full width of the pavement.

What to do when you see it

Stay in your lane and watch for oncoming vehicles; pass only where it is legal and clearly safe.

On the CA permit test

Two-Way Traffic warns that opposing traffic now shares the road — keep right and do not assume passing room.
