What the Speed Hump sign means

This yellow diamond warns of a speed hump, or speed bump, in the road ahead — a raised section built to slow traffic. Reduce your speed before you reach it so you can cross gently and keep control; hitting it too fast can jolt the vehicle, damage the suspension, and cause you to lose control. It is common on residential streets, in parking lots, and near schools and parks where slow speeds matter. A plate below the sign may post an advisory speed for crossing the hump.

What to do when you see it

Slow down before the hump and cross it gently; do not hit it at speed.
