Divided Highway Ends · MUTCD W6-2 · Warning sign

What the Divided Highway Ends sign means

This yellow diamond warns that the divided highway is ending ahead and the road becomes a two-way, undivided roadway. The median that separated opposing traffic disappears, so you will again share the pavement with oncoming vehicles. Keep to the right, do not pass unless it is legal and safe, and be alert for traffic approaching from the opposite direction. It is posted before the median ends so you are ready for the change from separated lanes back to a normal two-way road.

What to do when you see it

Keep right and prepare to meet oncoming traffic as the median ends and the road becomes two-way.

On the CA permit test

Divided Highway Ends warns the median is stopping — expect two-way traffic and keep right.
