What the Crossroad Ahead sign means

This yellow diamond shows a symmetrical plus-shaped symbol, warning that another road crosses ahead and vehicles may enter or cross your path. Cover your brake, scan left and right, and be ready for cross traffic, turning vehicles, or a driver who fails to yield. It appears before intersections that may be hidden by hills, trees, or buildings, where you might not spot the crossroad until you are on top of it. Even when you have the right-of-way, expect that someone at the crossroad could pull out in front of you.

What to do when you see it

Scan both directions and cover your brake for traffic that may cross or enter from the side road.
